What is AmeriCorps VISTA?
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that mobilizes full-time volunteers to support and advance community efforts to overcome poverty. VISTA members commit to year of service working for a nonprofit or public organization. Additionally, VISTAs perform indirect service activities and focus their effort on building the organizational, administrative and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.

Is AmeriCorps VISTA right for you?
- Are you at least 18 years old?

- Are you passionate about helping to reduce poverty?

- Are you willing to commit to a year of service to support the needs of others?

While serving as a VISTA are you willing to receive a modest monthly living allowance? If all of these things are true you would be a great candidate for an AmeriCorps VISTA position! As indicated above to apply to be a VISTA you must be at least 18 years old and be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States. Also, the program is all about reducing poverty, so individuals hired for these positions should be prepared for and believe in that work. The position requires a 12 month commitment and will pay a modest living allowance, therefore if applying just make sure you are prepared for both of these commitments. The living allowance varies based on where you are serving and is something you can inquire about during your interview.
Our VISTA Project
The University of Central Florida Office of Student Involvement’s AmeriCorps VISTA project will focus on addressing poverty needs in the Central Florida community. We have partnered with various organizations throughout Central Florida to accomplish this goal and VISTA members will work at these organizations. All partner organizations, known as sub-sites are listed under the Sub-Sites section of this page, please go there for specific information about the objectives of the VISTA(s) at each sub-site. One unique feature of our project is that we aim to recruit individuals who fit into one of the following three categories: individuals who are participating in the UCF Direct Connect program and are looking to take a gap year between completing their associate’s degree and continuing to pursue their bachelor’s degree, individuals who are recent UCF graduates and individuals who are recent Rollins College graduates. If this doesn’t not apply to you, you are still welcome to apply, but due to the goals of our grant our primary objective is to select individuals who fall into one of these categories.
The organizations listed below are all of our sub-site partners for the VISTA program and are where VISTA members will be working. To find out more information about the objectives of the VISTA(s) at each sub-sites please click the name of the organization. Please note that some sub-sites will have multiple VISTAs therefore there will be multiple Volunteer Assignment Descriptions* (VADs) for these organizations. VADs are basically VISTA documents that detail the VISTA member’s objectives, similar to a job description.
