Trips
To be a participant on one of our trips, join our page on Knight Connect, fill out our Participant Interest Form and then attend Lottery Knight! At Lottery Knight, you will get to learn about all the trips being offered for that semester, talk to the trip leaders, and sign up for a trip. Our selection process is through a randomized lottery. Once your name is called, you are able to select which trip you want to go on.
We require a $100 deposit to secure your spot on a trip. If the trip you wanted is completely full by the time your name is called, you can sign up as an alternate, choose a different trip, or receive your $100 deposit back that night. After the selection process, you will have your first meeting with your ABP Trip Leader(s) and your fellow participants that night!

"Power in Pride: Campus Pride in Charlotte, NC" is an Alternative Break Program Spring Break Experience focusing on LGBTQ+ Awareness. During our experience, we will be partnering with Campus Pride in Charlotte, NC. During this experience, our team will participate in discussions about the LGBTQ+ community, focusing on the importance of safe spaces for college students and increasing awareness about current conditions around the country. In partnership with Campus Pride, our team will also aid in the development of a new program that allows LGBTQ+ professionals to connect with one another, providing assistance when searching for a job. "Partnership Against Domestic Violence: Break the Chain, Amplify Voices" is an Alternative Break Program Spring Break Experience focusing on Domestic Violence Awareness. During our experience, we will be partnering with Partnership Against Domestic Violence in Atlanta, GA. During this experience, Participants will learn about current policies, risk assessment, signs of domestic violence, and how to support PADV clients. "Sustainability Through Trail Building: Cumberland Trail Conference" is an Alternative Break Program Spring Break Experience focusing on Environmental Awareness. During our experience, we will be partnering with Cumberland Trails Conference in collaboration with Cumberland Trail State Scenic Park in Pikeville, TN. During this experience, participants will learn about the planning that goes into building a trail meant for recreation while minimizing environmental effects. Additionally, participants will engage in education about the environment, history, geology, flora and fauna along the Cumberland Trail. SWEEAC provides emergency assistance to those going through food insecurity. Gateway Center is a program that helps people on their journey to be self-sufficient. For our ABP Trip, we will be addressing two vital community issues: Humanitarian relief and sustainability. By volunteering first-hand with two renowned New Orleans community organizations, we will engage in work on community farming land that increases access to food for underserved populations, and serving to revitalize damaged community infrastructure. Our team will perform carpentry work, building, and painting with YRNO; and our team will be planting crops, harvesting fruits from trees, grooming/manicuring land with The Acorn Farm.

The Indian River County Conservation Program protects endangered and rare ecosystems with the aim of groundwater quality as well as flood and biodiversity protection. Participants on our trip will work on the preservation of an endangered species of mint native to Florida, invasive plant removal, and park improvements. We will also be volunteering with St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park and staying in their bunkhouse for the duration of the trip.

Hope CommUnity Center is a service-learning community dedicated to helping the Central Florida immigrant and working communities through education, advocacy and spiritual growth. We will be engaging in farmwork to better understand the conditions of many members of the farmworker community, and have discussions around themes such as the immigration system, root causes of migration and community leadership. We will also be staying with host families to further learn about their experiences and stories by stepping into it for a night.

We will be travelling to Yabucoa municipality and staying in the Martorell neighborhood. Our team will focus on roof repair of flat, one-story cement roofs, critical repair of windows and doors to guard against the elements and mold sanitization. The volunteers will be provided with 3 meals a day for 5 days and we will also have a free activity day on New Years. Meals are not provided during free days but the school building that will accomodate us has a refrigerator and a small kitchen where we can store our own food.
Beautifying Vero’s Public Lands

For this trip, we will be going to Vero Beach, FL in collaboration with IRC Conservation, to volunteer and learn firsthand about environmental activism in coastal Florida. We will be volunteering with IRC Conservation, an organization which manages all public lands in Indian River County, Florida. We will be performing a variety of different duties based on what projects are most critical at the time of our trip.

We will also spend Friday, our free day, to explore Atlanta and will most likely go to the Martin Luther King museum.

Students will be traveling to Sarapiqui, Costa Rica to work with rural schools, directly serving the needs of students. We will be completing projects (painting, gardening, assisting etc.) in a local school and we will also paint the San Miguel Community Center. We will learn about the impact of climate change in Costa Rica and will bring into our reflections the influence of global economy and economic justice in this country. Lastly, we will spend Friday as our free day to explore and learn the story and process of Costa Rican coffee, the importance of sustainable farms as well as visit zero-waste artisans around the neighborhood of Sarapiqui.

This trip is only for students in the Lead Scholars Academy. Students will be beautifying and restoring the streets of New Orleans. We will be working with NetWork New Orleans Volunteers which connects volunteers to a variety of social issues and projects around the world. We will be partnering with local communities to support continued revitalization and improve neighborhoods. Our service projects include park beautification and planting, community center beautification, neighborhood canvassing and surveying, and home rebuilding and construction. We will also have a free day where we will be exploring the rich Louisiana culture and history.

ABP will be partnering with the UCF Outdoor Adventure Center for a week-long trip throughout the Florida Keys and Dry Tortugas National Park! This trip will have a few differences than other ABP trips due to this partnership. Volunteers will spend two days of our trip volunteering with Team OCEAN at the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary doing marine debris cleanup. The rest of this trip will be activities facilitated by Outdoor Adventure, like kayaking, snorkeling, and exploring Dry Tortugas.
