Students will provide assistance to Safehouse Outreach, a homelessness support organization in Atlanta, GA. The organization develops relationships with members of the homeless population to build trust and give resources to individuals with the goal of aiding them to move off of the street.
For this trip we will be traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana to help combat homelessness. We will be working with NetWork New Orleans Volunteers. Our projects will include home rebuilding, assisting local homeless shelters, and serving food to the homeless. We will also spend Sunday as our free day to explore the rich Louisiana culture.
Ability 1st offers support services, advocacy and information to empower people with disabilities to live independently. We will be building accessibility ramps and assisting with group activities.
We will be travelling to Yabucoa municipality and staying in the Martorell neighborhood. Our team will focus on roof repair of flat, one-story cement roofs, critical repair of windows and doors to guard against the elements and mold sanitization. The volunteers will be provided with 3 meals a day for 5 days and we will also have a free activity day on New Years. Meals are not provided during free days but the school building that will accomodate us has a refrigerator and a small kitchen where we can store our own food.
